Bio: Sandra Blimke is a photo and mixed media artist living in Vancouver, Canada. She received her Bachelor of Fine Art with a major in photography from Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in 2007.
Through her art, Sandra explores metaphysical and philosophical ideas about the fundamental nature of being and the world. Her investigation into our existence questions how we connect with our environment and each other.
The photographic image is central to Sandra’s work. Her interest in photography lies in its inherent ability to contain meaning beyond the referential image. Through the use of cropping and juxtaposition, she develops uncanny narratives which are ambiguous in nature and that cause the viewer to reflect upon and experience the complexity of the everyday world. In changing how we look, we can shift our internal consciousness.
In addition to photography, Sandra is currently working with collage and décollage. Through processes of construction and deconstruction, she uses found images and text, combining them with painting and drawing to present new representations of reality that shift our ways of thinking.
