Bio:
Inspired by the landscapes in which I have lived – Canadian prairies, the intense cityscape of New York City, and most recently the West Coast rain forest – my realistic work captures just enough detail to launch the mind and heart. Loose realism evokes in the viewer connections to landscapes and dreamscapes of their own experience. My non-representational work draws upon years of yoga, meditation and martial arts practice to explore the duality of our being - light and dark, physical and non-physical. Our struggles and our sublime nature are manifest in these powerful works. I use acrylics, watercolors, graphite, and a variety of drawing sticks, often in combination. Exploration of the continuum between painting and drawing, mark-making and color are my focus. Odilon Redon, John Marin, Gerhard Richter and Mark Rothko inspire me, as does the occasional glass of single malt scotch whiskey. I am an avid painter, teacher, and seeker of the epic story behind everyday life.
