Bio:
Vancouver born artist Karin Vengshoel left a near decade career in fashion design and merchandising to pursue her first love, painting. Over the last several years Karin has created a large collection of paintings, many of which can be found in private and commercial collections across BC. The foundation of her work lies in the consistently strong process-based element, where she employs repetitive, techniques to create oil and mixed media paintings on wood and canvas. Currently her passion for painting has found her integrating arts and science. Karin’s interest in astronomy has had a deep impact on the direction of her work. Each new piece created is a testimony to the awe-inspiring magnitude of the universe and the increasing ability of humanity to see and understand it. The phenomena depicted are of such large scale that we can only measure it in relation to the speed of light and nothing humanity has ever created has even attained a significant fraction of that speed. Our telescopes see not only in distance but also in time. An image of something 500 light years away is also 500 years in our past. We have images of events 13 billion years away. How much has changed since the light from that distant view began its journey?
