My new series of geometric abstracts documents a shift towards basic colour and form. For me there is high drama in the sharp-edged contrast highlighted in these urban inspired pieces. Like most of my work, these paintings reference my immediate environment and my fleeting responses to it. They allude to delicate yearnings and our imperfect human desire to find balance and order in the chaotic lives we construct for ourselves. Much of my inspiration also stems from literature, having taught English and the Humanities for over 10 years. Later I studied painting at Emily Carr University, and travelled extensively. While living abroad with my family, I had the opportunity to paint and exhibit with numerous international artists.
