Cheryl Fortier’s paintings are informed by her love of the outdoors. West coast colours and the warmth of the light inspire Cheryl’s palette. She approaches each piece with spontaneity and skill using a diverse array of materials - whatever it takes to allow her idea to reveal itself. Some of the pieces are large in scale and allow viewers to immerse themselves in the experience. Each summer since 2009, Cheryl has been Resident Artist/Directrice of Moulin à Nef, the artists residence of the Virginia Centre for the Creative Arts in Auvillar, Tarn et Garonne, France. Her recent paintings have taken on the rich colour of the surrounding fields and the lush, sensual aspect of the landscape. Painting professionally for more than 20 years, this British Columbia native’s paintings hang in collections around North America and in Europe. Cheryl’s studio is in the Mergatroid Building in East Vancouver.
