I will be showing a series of vegetable and fruit paintings at this year's crawl. This group of paintings started out as practice work, became a series, and is evolving into a large scale project. There are a few reasons why I picked veggies and fruit as subject matter: I have been a vegetarian for several years and it was time to have that part of my life enter my art practice. I am fascinated by 15th and 16th century paintings using food as symbolism and a way to deliver a message to the viewer. And simply, veggies and fruit are lovely to work with. They're diverse in shape, bright in colour, and fun to shop for in markets.
